GFRD Hits The Track Again!

Roller Derby on the Peninsula: Summer Bash Bout

Did you catch the roller derby event of the summer?!

Sunday, July 23, GFRD hosted Patuxent Roller Derby in their second home bout of the 2023 season, the Summer Bash! The event was live-streamed to our Facebook page where you can find info on all our games, community events, and more!

Our new friends, The Sirens hailing from Maryland, brought an exciting energy and were phenomenal to play against. They were not only fierce competitors but were also fun to share the track (and the after-party) with!

The whole game was a nail-biter! PRD claimed the lead at halftime, 66-77. But the home team, GFRD, managed to pull out the win in the last seconds of the final jam with a score of 154-152.

New GFRD Skaters: Trippy Ti-Die #50 and Halfpipe Viper #128

GFRD welcomed to the track for the first time Halfpipe Viper #128 and Trippy Ti-Die #50. Each skater, having recently participated in the league's Bootcamp, had the opportunity to don a blue jersey!

Be on the lookout for more first-timers this fall and follow us on our socials (links at the top of your screen!) to stay up to date with what’s happening!

The bout was filled with amazing plays, crowd-pleasing hits, and jammers that could fly! But the players managed to choose one MVP Blocker and Jammer from each team.

*MVP Jammers: Red Pepper from PRD & Fancy Spice from GFRD
*MVP Blockers: Tricky Nicky from PRD & Gnat, Maybe from GFRD

MVP Skaters from GFRD & PRD

Although this wasn’t their first rodeo, GFRD was excited to welcome Gnat, Maybe to the track for the first time with the Fleet! Gnat has experience playing and reffing for other area teams, and we’re stoked to have them recently join the league as a member skater!

Ghost Fleet Marketing Team was on-point with their amazing Bout Book for the event! In an effort to be more environmentally conscious, the league decided to go digital with the information we share with our fans at our bouts. We’re eager to see more great things from this marketing team in the future!
Tag us on socials if you see some of their fabulous fliers locally!

Roller Derby After-Party!

No roller derby event would be complete without an after-party! (Yes…even those events that may fall on a Sunday morning!) After the battle on the track, skaters, refs, NSOs, and fans headed over to Capstan Bar Brewing Company to cool down with some great local brews and good eats from DD-214 Smokehouse

Snapshots from the After Party

Do you have after-party pictures?
We’d LOVE for you to tag us…and maybe we’ll share your photo with our community!

Thank You From GFRD

GFRD would not have been able to host this bout without the help of our Skating Officials, Non-skating Officials, and volunteers. So much happens behind the scenes and on the sidelines to make an event like this happen…and we have some real ROCK STARS!

While GFRD only hosts Bootcamps for incoming skaters periodically, we are ALWAYS recruiting Non-skating Officials (NSOs)! Reach out if you’d like to get involved!

Ghost Fleet Roller Derby would also like to thank all the sponsors that have helped our league grow and continue to host these awesome events! If you or your business may be interested in becoming a sponsor, check out our Sponsorship Packages. Ghost Fleet Roller Derby is a 501c3 Nonprofit Organization.
