The Fleet Takes On TVRD

GFRD started June off with a bout in Roanoke, VA going head-to-head with Twin Valleys Roller Derby. The Fleet (and some amazing friends from CDD!) played their hearts out and enjoyed the challenge.
Unfortunately, no photos were available at the time of publishing of the amazing Pickleshots at Martin’s, but Buckroe Bae appreciates all those who were willing to give them a try!

Phoebus Pride Festival 2023
Thanks to all the members who volunteered to help run our booth at the Phabulous Phoebus Pride Fest on June 17! The outfits were amazing and we had so much fun talking derby with the crowd. Can't wait for next year!

GFRD Hops on the Freight Train!
The infamous Freight Train allowed GFRD to show their MEGA-fan status (and geek out) at the June Skate Clinic. Skaters had the opportunity to learn some fancy footwork, give & take some hard hits (Doom, are you ok?), ask all the questions, and get some fantastic feedback from the world-renowned guest coach.
GFRD would like to say a special thanks to skater and our fabulous Skater Relations Committee Head, Bad 'N' Boujee, for her Super-Fan status and go-get-'em attitude that helped bring Freight Train to the Fleet!
Also, thanks to our coaching staff for making some quick changes to our practice calendar so we could take advantage of this amazing opportunity!
Bootcamp Members Earn Their Stripes
Ghost Fleet Roller Derby’s latest round of Bootcamp began on May 3, 2023. Bootcamp is a program that teaches the fundamentals of skating and roller derby and helps members transition to contact and eventually competitive gameplay or becoming a skating official.
Our newest members have been working hard and many recently earned a new stripe! Our Stripe System is a way to help skaters and coaches know which skills they’ve got a handle on and which ones coaches can help them nail! Once they’ve collected the rainbow and gotten the all-clear from the coaching team, skaters look forward to moving into scrimmaging and honing those skills!
