You’ll need a helmet, mouthguard, elbow pads, wrist guards, knee pads, and quad skates.
Please check with the league before purchasing to be sure you’re buying the right gear (not all skates and protective gear are created equal!) and also get your hands on league discounts to get you started off right!

Skaters are responsible for monthly membership dues and their personal equipment. Our recruiting team can share more info on types of dues.
Safety gear is a requirement and quality starter pad packs (wrist, elbow, knee) usually run about $50-$75. We have recommendations on the best type of gear to purchase and league discount codes are available!
Derby/Speed skates (not artistic skates or inline skates) are also required to play. A new, basic starter skate can run you about $150. Reach out to us for info on how to find a good deal on used skates if you’re looking to save some money, and for league discount codes if you’re purchasing new!
We can also make recommendations for helmets ($50+) and mouthguards ($10+) that are great for derby!
As a league skater, it is also required to purchase a Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Association (WFTDA) Skater insurance policy for $80 per year.
Gear Rentals Available!
GFRD now has a gear rental program for those just starting out! Reach out for more information! -
GFRD is always looking for volunteers off-skates to help us bring roller derby to the community!
Our games and scrimmages require numerous Non-Skating Officials (NSOs) to be a success! Some fun jobs available are: scorekeepers, scoreboard operators, penalty box timers, jam timer, and line-up trackers.
No experience and no gear necessary! We’ll provide training and a fun group of people to hang with!
Reach out to info@ghostfleetrollerderby.com if you’re interested in becoming an NSO!

While our hits can be big and are 100% real, modern roller derby isn’t always like what you see on TV. We play on a flat track (not banked like some movies) and follow the Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby (WFTDA) rule set.
